What’s the difference between tai chi and qi gong?
Qi gong is a less a form exercise and more like a form of moving meditation . If you have never done either of these, it would be easy to mistake one for the other. While some of the movements may look similar, Qi Gong is prescribed to treat specific ailments. Tai Chi, is used for over all movement and flexibility.
You see, when one allows the mind to be empty of active thought yet passively aware, this act allows one to be in a state of free flow, observing rather than thinking about specific things. Allowing thoughts to simply flow through the mind. Qi gong also includes direction of intent . For example, if we’re experiencing pain but actively visualize energy flowing throughout the area, we will help those areas become more supple as we fill it with breath and light the passive observation of our own healing becomes a mantra.
I feel this approach makes the person aware of the responsibility to manage their personal energy. As a massage therapist and a trainer, I know there are ways we can work to heal ourselves.
