As some of my favorite long term clients began to enter their 80’s, I found myself not only giving them massages, but also taking over as a care taker. Because of this, I decided to get myself trained as a CNA. It’s not a vocation I sought out, rather, out of necessity I took on that role in order to continue to serve my clients as they age.
Many of them need rides to and from Dr. Appointments, help with grocery shopping, managing meal and medications. Some of them have grown children who live too far away to help them out on a regular basis. I am here as a resource for worried children.
These are men and women who have always been self-sufficient and independent. They do not want to go into assisted living, although there are some amazing assisted living facilities here in Brevard County. A little bit of help is all they need for the time being, and that is what I give them.
A massage helps get the blood flowing, and lets them get up and around. An extra pair of eyes to see what needs to be done around the house to keep them safe and secure, and a point of contact for other family members.
Obviously, each person I work with has different needs, and I adapt my services accordingly. But it’s nice to know that I can continue to care for people who have been in my care as a Massage Therapist for many years to come.
