I mainly work on people in their own homes. I carry my table with me, and my supplies. Other massage therapists only work out of an office. It’s all in what we are comfortable with. I have done both and neither one is better than the other, just different.

Today I want to share with you just one of the reasons why I love to do massages at home. Often, when I work with younger families, there is a child or two around. Most of the time they can manage to be quiet and let mommy or daddy get a massage. Every so often the good behavior will involve a bit of incentive on my part. In exchange for good behavior they may get their very own massage, sometimes a favorite stuffed toy will have a boo boo, or even a dog a cat will need a massage.

This was my experience today, and it was truly precious. This Mom is a friend of my daughters. She has a two year old sweet boy and is pregnant. I just finished  rubbing the feet of an end stage Parkinson’s patient and  they were my next appointment.

I spent time teaching a two year old how to massage his Momma and his pet stuffed animal. Then he asked for a massage for himself. It is those moments that I wait for. The child gets it. He will be a massage client when he grows up and when his partner is in pain or stressed, he will know what to do to help.

The timing is perfect as he is now starting to understand that the world isn’t just about his little self. It’s about other people as well. I think part of the gift of having a therapist come to the home,is the child now sees that mommy needs tending too just like he does. Beyond just seeing, he now knows that he can help.

When he’s included in the process he feels needed and confident he has a new skill to share. When the baby sister who is growing in Momma’s Womb arrives he’ll know just how to comfort her.. This sweet little boy will understand having a loving family and being part of a group is shared concern for the best of. He will see an example of when  mom and dad are happy he’s happy and the extension family is happy.

We all bask in the love .that’s starts in one place..one instance that is filled with love.
