I love family massage time. One of the nice things about having an outcall massage practice is working on families. Over the years I’ve learned a lot from working with families.

Parenting is a big job. At times Parents can get overwhelmed with all the responsibilities  of raising  child. In addition to that, carrying their  career stress will sometimes that stress makes them feel unappreciated or overtired. When I show up to a home to give a msaage, often times the children are curious, and they have a hard time letting their parents relax.

One of the side effects benefits of massage that I noticed over the years that when the whole family got massage it was a way to learn boundaries. I discussed massage manners with the children and parents. What I usually do when I’m starting to work with a family is explain to the children that I would be happy to work on them as long as they allow the parents to have their massage in peace.

There have been times that I was held aside when the children would not do so. I would explain to them that when they work out their massage manners they can have the reward of a massage.I also explained to them that Mommy is a person too and she is allowed to have time to herself to restore and take care of herself , she is not just an endless source of outflow.

I also taught the children how to work on each other and sometimes allowed them to work on the parents. When I instructed the children how to do this they were always very interested and enjoyed the empowerment that they could do something on their own to be loving and helpful to their siblings.

They were better at comforting each other and understanding the difference between loving, appropriate touch and setting physical boundaries. One of the reasons infant massage instructors want to teach parents how to massage to children is to increase bonding in the family and increase communication through touch. The ultimate goal was to prevent child abuse and increase peace on Earth.

I consider the work I did in this area to be my most rewarding and has had a good influence on my community.
